WAKEFIELD - MDOT plans to expand U.S. 2 in the year 2028, a date moved back to allow Wakefield to service and replace water & sewer lines under the roadway simultaneously.

The widening effects properties near Wakefield-Marenisco School and Lakeside Memorial Chapel. While the Gogebic County Sheriff and school district support the safety and traffic improvements, residents are concerned about pedestrian safety, signage, and chapel parking. MDOT expects to finalize plans this year after more community input.
