BAYFIELD COUNTY - Governor Tony Evers on Tuesday visited the recently completed Fish Creek stream relocation in Bayfield County as part of his Earth Week tour. Fish Creek, Ashland's drinking water source, was eroding a bluff due to past clear-cut logging, which caused excess sediment, increased water filtration costs, and harmed fish spawning. The Burke Center for Ecosystem Research moved a portion of the creek 50 yards from the bluff to curb erosion and reduce sediment. Governor Evers expressed the need for more state and federal funding for such environmental projects, noting funding came partly from the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. More details on the Fish Creek stream location can be found at burkectr.org.
