IRONWOOD - After a 5-2 vote by the Gogebic County Commission last month, the Friends of the Gogebic County Fair have taken over management of fair and the fairgrounds. Those who attended the meeting were given a timeline of the meetings that led to the takeover and plans for this year’s fair were discussed as well as goals for next year regarding construction plans and community involvement. The Board of Directors for the Friends of the Fair consists of chairman Jim Gribble, along with vice chair Red Richards, Secretary Lori Bennetts and member Keith Tippett. There will be a booth selling food as a fundraiser for the fair at Festival Ironwood in July. The board talked about repairs to the cattle barn, which are hoped to be complete before the event and discussed a lead on a small-scale carnival for the younger kids for this year’s event. A 3-on-3 basketball tournament, volleyball and horseshoe tournaments were discussed as possibilities for this year’s fair which is set for August 7-10th.
