LANSING, Mich. (AP) — President Donald Trump has offered rare praise for Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer as she appeared with him in the Oval Office. The second-term Democratic governor stood awkwardly feet from Trump as he signed executive orders yesterday. It came not long after she delivered a speech nearby that offered soft criticism of him but emphasized shared priorities. Whitmer was in Washington delivering a “Build, America, Build” address that only raised speculation about a 2028 presidential run. She was at the White House to talk about tariffs that were expected to disproportionately affect her state, though Trump announced a pause on tariffs aside from China.
