TOWN OF NEWBOLD - The Oneida County District Attorney has decided it will not file any charges against the deputy involved in a deadly chase in January in the Town of Newbold.  on January 17 Oneida County Deputy Michael Bedish attempted to pull over 28-year-old Matthew Johnson while driving north on Highway 47 at Johnson pulled over and stopped on the shoulder of the highway but then drove off.  The report says the chase reached a top speed of 120 MPH.  When Johnson attempted to pass a vehicle along the right shoulder.  He lost control of the vehicle and slid from the northbound lane into the southbound lane, crashing into a vehicle driving south.  Crews removed Johnson from the vehicle. EMS crews attempted life-saving measures, but Johnson was declared dead at the scene.  The Oneida County DA says the evidence concludes Deputy Bedish’s actions were justified when initiating and continuing the pursuit of Johnson’s vehicle.
