ASHLAND - A construction crew has begun to dismantle the Pier at Bayview Park, along the eastern part of Lake Shore Drive in Ashland. The pier had been closed in 2022, when damage caused city officials to determine that repairs to the structure could not be made. In 2017, the $550,000 pier was built over the remnants and pilings of the former ore dock, with designs by C&S Design and Engineering and the Nordic Group out of Hermantown Minnesota doing the construction. When the pier began to show wear and damage after only a year, the city of Ashland filed suit and received a settlement totaling around just about half the cost of building the pier from both C&S Design and Engineering, and the Nordic Group. It now remains to be seen what, if anything will be done in place of the once popular summer attraction.
