LAKE SUPERIOR - The Michigan Department of Natural Resources released information about the state of fish populations in Upper Michigan’s lakes.  According to the numbers lake trout in Lake Superior are officially recovered. Even though Lake Superior is fully recovered, sea lamprey will always be an issue in the big lake.  The arrival of sea lamprey in the Great Lakes occurred in the mid-1900s which caused the trout population to decline.  The 2026 survey season is expected to start in the next couple of weeks.  The Great Lakes fisheries surveys happen every year between April and November.
