GOGEBIC / IRON COUNTIES – Thousands spend Thanksgiving in the dark after a blizzard brought 40 mile per hour winds and nearly 30 inches of snow to the region Wednesday.  The current Xcel Energy power outage map still showing power outages in the region as of 6:30 this morning.  Most of the power outages are in the Mercer area and on Lake Gogebic.  Xcel Energy saying some may not see the lights come back on until 10:00 tonight after losing power early Wednesday.  Xcel Energy says about 14,000 customers lost power during the storm. Nearly 40 percent had service restored by yesterday morning.  As many as 7,000 customers were without power as of yesterday in just the Ironwood area alone. Xcel brought in crews from the Twin Cities, southeastern Minnesota and South Dakota to help with repairs.  Warming centers around the Upper Peninsula and Northern Wisconsin are available for those affected by the storm.
