IRONWOOD - The effort to bring the ski jump at Copper Peak back into service continues. A $20 million contract was signed with Engineering and Construction Innovation of Minnesota to begin the first phase of the project of bringing the jump into compliance with the requirements for international competition. Copper Peak President Bob Jacquart said the angle of the landing has changed since 1994, so new concrete will have to be poured to correct that. The funding for the project is coming from the American Rescue Plan Act, and work pouring the concrete is expected to start in the Spring. While that construction is going on, every effort will be made to make sure that Copper Peak’s other attractions will still be available to the public. Jacquart stresses that additional funding is still required to complete the project, but is optimistic that things will move forward, bringing contractors to the area to work on the jump, and then bringing international competition to the area.
