GOGEBIC COUNTY - The Gogebic County Board of Commissioners at a special meeting unanimously censured Commissioner Daniel Wood for what they say are repeated violations in county spending and vehicle-use policies.  Wood saying the policies are vague and he was censured before being able to explain the expenses or get any clarification on county policies. Wood, who was absent from the vote, was cited for $426 in unauthorized county credit card charges, including a motel room with spa services on August 15 and room service from September 30 to October 2. He also used a county vehicle for a non-existent August 15 meeting. The censure permanently removes Wood from all committee/agency appointments and eliminates his county travel and vehicle use. Wood in a comment to WUPM and WHRY Radio news says “I was authorized to be at the conference by the county. I didn’t know exactly what expenses beyond meals and conference were covered so I figured I would find out when I returned to Bessemer but not this way.  I can understand the issue. If it’s not a “viable” or an expense that’s covered, I will reimburse the county.”
