GOGEBIC COUNTY - The Gogebic County Board of Commissioners has appointed Ironwood Township resident Keith Johnson to represent District 2, filling a vacancy left by Joseph Cayer, who resigned October 7. Johnson was selected from four applicants after two rounds of voting, with commissioners ultimately approving his appointment unanimously. Johnson says a major priority will be monitoring Xcel Energy’s planned sale of its Michigan electric and natural gas operations. He also wants to support continued mining development, including the proposed Copperwood Project in Wakefield and Ironwood townships.
