LANSING -A group of five Democratic lawmakers in the State House is calling for firearm deer season to be extended this year to help feed Michigan families in need. They introduced House Resolution 202 yesterday, calling on the Michigan Natural Resources Commission to temporarily extend the 2025 open firearm hunting season to include the entire month of November. The resolution specifically cites the Department of Natural Resources Hunters Feeding Michigan program, which allows hunters to voluntarily donate venison to be processed and distributed to Michigan food banks. Right now, the regular firearm deer hunting season is scheduled to run from Nov. 15 through the 30th. This on the heels of SNAP benefits running out today.
