IRON / ASHLAND COUNTIES - Wisconsin’s Department of Natural Resources has issued Enbridge a notice of violation over alleged environmental violations in Iron and Ashland counties. The October 13 notice cites construction of a Line 5 reroute and an unpermitted bypass around the Saxon spill site. Alleged violations include sediment discharges, unauthorized wetland and waterway impacts, and failures to meet endangered species and air quality requirements. The DNR could refer the case to the state Department of Justice for prosecution. Enbridge says it’s reviewing the notice and has worked closely with the DNR on the project and spill response.
