BAYFIELD COUNTY - The Bayfield County Sheriff’s Committee voted 3-to-2 to recommend a countywide policy on Flock license plate readers and other automated surveillance technology, potentially including a ban. According to the Daily Press, the full County Board will vote on the recommendation on the 27th. Supporters cited privacy concerns, while opponents said the cameras help protect public safety. Sheriff Tony Williams said his office has strengthened security safeguards but questioned whether the county board can dictate his department’s policies. One committee member also warned the proposal’s broad language could affect body cameras, squad cameras and courthouse surveillance.
