VILAS COUNTY - At its meeting last night, the Vilas County Board voted to open county highways to ATV and UTVs. That vote excluded County Trunk Highways located in the Sovereign Nation of Lac du Flambeau. The changeover will take some time, as the county highway department will have to put up signage before trails open, which means being able to travel freely will probably be more likely to happen next winter. The opening is exclusive to lettered county roads and town roads, if the town allows. The towns that have already opened their roads have seen a positive shift in the economy with people being able to travel more easily from place to place.
