MARENISCO – The DNR heard public input on proposed Walleye regulation changes for Lake Gogebic Tuesday.  The Michigan DNR officials said at the meeting that they are working to grow the number of female walleyes in Lake Gogebic and that new regulations are coming.  Under the proposed new regulations anglers would still be allowed to take five walleye per day but, it would create a slot limit. That limit would prohibit anglers from possessing walleye measuring between 18 inches and 23 inches.  However, anglers can harvest one walleye above 23 inches. The DNR says this is to help increase spawning stock, particularly targeting female walleye.  The changes to the walleye regulations won’t take effect until 2026 and would not affect tribal members who practice subsistence fishing on Lake Gogebic.
