MADISON - The state of Wisconsin has set aside $50,000,000 to improve reading scores across the state as a part of Act 20.  However, after much back and forth in Madison the funds could go to the state's surplus if not used by June 30th.  According to Representative Patrick Snyder, when the act first came out it had no directive for where the funds were headed, following that a new draft was presented with where the funding would go.  Governor Tony Evers then threw a veto on the act since it had some other errors, and after giving recommendations of his own that is where the disagreements started.  Representative Snyder says the Superintendents he is talking to say the funds would also help with their razor thin budgets, declining numbers, and a teacher shortage and says he’s hopeful to have a final result in the next month and a half to get funds to schools across the state.
