UPPER MICHIGAN – All voters in Michigan will see a statewide proposal regarding the state constitution on their ballots this November, a proposal that only pops up every 16 years. Proposal 1 reads “Shall a convention of elected delegates be convened in 2027 to draft a general revision of the state constitution for presentation to the state’s voters for their approval or rejection?” If more than 50% of people vote ‘no,’ the question will return to ballots in 2042, and Michigan will continue with its current constitution. If the majority of voters say ‘yes,’ a group of elected delegates would get together to draft a revised constitution that would again go before voters for potential adoption.
