LAC DU FLAMBEAU - A Wisconsin state Senator has been banned from the Lac Du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indian reservation. In a press release, the tribal council stated that a resolution passed banishes Senator Mary Felzkowski from tribal lands after comments she made at a meeting at the Woodruff community center in August. In comments, she equated the Tribe to terrorists during discussion regarding the ongoing dispute between the tribe and the town of Lac du Flambeau. The council condemned Felzkoski’s remarks as irresponsible given her role as co-chair of the Special Committee on State-Tribal relations, a position that is supposed to foster mutual understanding and respect between Wisconsin and Tribal Governments.
