N. WISCONSIN - The Wisconsin goose season opens today in both the Northern and Southern zones.  Hunters face a daily bag limit of three Canada geese statewide during the first part of the season.  The season runs until Dec. 16 in the Northern Zone.  State wildlife officials advise hunters to take safety precautions regarding Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI). While the virus has not shown food safety risks for humans, hunters should avoid handling sick or dead birds, prevent hunting dogs from contacting them, wear rubber gloves when field dressing game in ventilated areas, and cook harvested waterfowl to an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
