ASHLAND - Ashland police are raising money to restore the department’s K-9 unit, which became inactive after longtime dog Chase retired at the end of 2025. The Daily Press reports Officer John Williams was selected to become the new K-9 handler and says about 35-thousand dollars is needed for the dog, training and equipment. The department says a K-9 would help with drug detection, tracking, search and rescue, and apprehending suspects. Chief Brandon Marten says the dog could also assist neighboring agencies. Fundraising is underway, with training planned for next year. Donations to help support the K-9 unit can be sent to the Ashland Police Department.
