UPPER MICHIGAN / WISC (AP) - It’s never been more expensive to take one last summer trip over this last Labor Day weekend with gas prices nearly a dollar higher than last year and well above the Labor Day weekend record of $3.82 from 2012, according to AAA motor club. The national average for regular gas prices is still well below the record of $5.02 a gallon set in June 2022. But diesel is a different story: It hit a national average of $5.85 a gallon Friday, a new record. Diesel prices in Ironwood just a few pennies below $6 a gallon with unleaded prices at $4.13 this morning. Around the region unleaded gas in Mellen is $4.23, Bergland $4.20, Ontonagon and Watersmeet $4.19, Hurley at $3.97, Woodruff and Ashland $3.93, Park Falls and Glidden at $3.92. The lowest gas price we could find was in Lac Du Flambeau at $3.90 a gallon. Gas prices typically drop as the summer driving season ends after Labor Day as refineries shift to making a cheaper winter blend.
