BAYFIELD - The Bayfield Recreation Center’s largest fundraiser of the year took place last weekend and the annual event proved to be one of the largest…The Point to La Pointe Open Water Swim brought in over 650 registered swimmers from the Midwest and across the country. almost 100 swimmers completed the swim to Madeline Island in less than an hour. The swim started in 2006 with just 24 swimmers. This year it sold out in record time, with all 600 slots filled by mid-November for the August event. Event coordinators added an additional 50 spots and still had a waiting list for the swim. The event brings in more than a million dollars for Bayfield and the surrounding area.
