IRONWOOD - A Superior International Junior Hockey League team has been given the go-ahead to relocate and Ironwood will be the team’s new home. In a press release, the owner of the new Ironwood Lumberjacks Douglas E. Lien II thanked the league’s board of governors for their support in the relocation process. He also thanked the Pat O’Donnell Civic Center Board of Directors, Paul Anderson, City Manager for Ironwood and the Polar Bears Minor Hockey Association for their support. The team will drop the puck on its sixth season September 13th and 14th at the Civic Center at the Civic Center for its inaugural home opener games. Mayor Kim Corcoran welcomed the team enthusiastically and the Ironwood Tourism Council’s President Bob Burchell said the council looks forward to having the Lumberjacks in the community.
