EAST LANSING - A new report from Michigan State Police shows overall traffic deaths in Michigan rose slightly last year.  According to the report, bicyclist crashes were up 20 percent in 2024, and fatalities climbed 21 percent. Work zone deaths also rose 17 percent.  State officials say distracted driving, speeding, and impaired driving continue to put both cyclists and roadside workers in danger. To address that, Michigan has applied for more than 100 federally funded grants for the next fiscal year to expand safety programs.
