VILAS COUNTY - Vilas County’s Land and Water Department is hosting boat washings through the end of August to help prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species.

Hot-pressure decontaminations will target Big Muskellunge, Star, Plum and Trout lakes, where officials are working to stop the spread of spiny water fleas. Washes are scheduled August 29 at Big Muskellunge and Trout lakes, and August 30 at Plum and Star lakes. The voluntary program is operated with UW-Oshkosh and has been offered in Vilas County since 2018.
