IRONWOOD – Flock Cameras have been popping up in Hurley, Ironwood and across the country and with them controversy and privacy concerns. Experts say there are pros and cons to the cameras. The Ironwood City Commission is considering using the license plate readers on a broader scale. Ironwood city commissioners are considering whether to use Flock license plate cameras, prompting concerns from residents about privacy, security and potential errors. Public Safety Director Matthew Sterbenz says the cameras collect license plates and vehicle details and are useful in investigations involving stolen vehicles, missing people and wanted suspects. Ironwood currently has one camera, while the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office has another in the city. Commissioners have not decided as of yet.
