NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP - The Michigan legislature continues to work towards finalizing a state budget. Lawmakers have until Oct. 1 to pass a budget to avoid a state government shutdown. Governor Whitmer released her budget recommendation in February, which totaled $83.5 billion. Included was a school aid budget of $21.2 billion. Democratic State Representative Jason Morgan says the blame lies with the Republican-led House leadership. Republican Representative Dave Prestin says the Senate needs to work across the aisle on a bipartisan deal. The final budget must be passed by the House and Senate and then signed by the Governor.
