PARK FALLS - A Park Falls man accidentally shot himself in the leg while moving a handgun for cleaning, according to police. Officer Joshua Hilgart responded to Marshfield Medical Center on July 20, after a mandatory report of a gunshot wound. The man, conscious and cooperating, explained he was cleaning his concealed carry 9mm handgun when it discharged. He speculated he might have inadvertently disengaged the safety and touched the trigger. After checking for criminal records and foul play, Officer Hilgart confirmed no charges would be filed. The man was to be transferred to another hospital in order to have surgery to repair his wound.
