BAYFIELD COUNTY - A two-year-old female black bear, found with a jar stuck on its head in Bayfield County near Lake Namakagon, has been freed and relocated.

The Chequamegon Humane Association received the initial call last Sunday night. The bear was sighted in a Crystal Lake resident’s yard outside of Cable on Sunday morning. The resident promptly contacted the U.S. Department of Agriculture. USDA Wildlife Services Staff arrived on the scene, tranquilized the bear, and successfully removed the jar. According to the Wisconsin DNR, the bear was safely relocated to a wooded area with abundant natural food and water sources. The Wisconsin DNR emphasized that public reports were crucial in saving the bear’s life.
