GOGEBIC COUNTY - The Michigan DNR is funding 14 projects totaling nearly $200,000 to improve white-tailed deer habitat across the Upper Peninsula, including in Gogebic County. The grants, funded by deer hunting license revenue, are double the annual amount awarded in previous years. Now in its 18th year, the initiative has awarded nearly $1.5 million through 176 grants. Projects include planting trees and grasses, turning abandoned logging roads into hunter walking trails, and involving K-12 students across nine counties.
