HURLEY - The Iron County Board of Supervisors approved the hiring of Jay Sween of Wisconsin as Iron county manager. The motion, made by Karen Lauer and seconded by Mario Loreti, passed with Paul Mullard casting the sole dissenting vote. Richard Boes and Patrick Hanson were absent. City clerk Christan Brandt stated that the board will address the approval of the new manager’s $98,000 annual salary at its next meeting. The board also voted 7-6 to advertise a new position as a county finance director. Larry Youngs, the board chairman, stated he would have preferred to delay until the board could discuss in depth the specific funding mechanism for the new position. He indicated that the two new positions would cost the county over $200,000.
