LAC DU FLAMBEAU - A group of White Sand Lake property owners has filed a federal lawsuit against the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, claiming the tribe unlawfully blocked access to a private boat launch. The tribe claims the boat launch violates tribal code and won an injunction against the property owners. The homeowners argue the tribe lacks jurisdiction over privately owned land and Wisconsin's navigable waterways. Tribal officials say they'll respond in court and maintain they have a responsibility to protect reservation waters and cultural resources.
