ISLE ROYALE - Isle Royale National Park has temporarily closed individual tent and group campsites at Three Mile Campground after a wolf displayed increasingly bold behavior around campers.  The closure began yesterday, and will remain in effect through July 31. Tent and hammock use is prohibited at the campground, and nearby off-trail camping zones are also closed. Shelters at Three Mile Campground remain open.  Park officials said the wolf has been seen sniffing and pawing at tents, dragging backpacks away from campsites and entering a tent. The park has responded with hazing efforts. Hazing efforts include loud shouting, stomping, clapping, sounding airhorns, and discharging paintball guns.  Park officials say they have Improved trash management and stricter food storage requirements, despite those efforts’ officials say the wolf’s continued interest in tents and backpacks prompted the closure.
