ONTONAGON - The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will survey the Ontonagon, Mineral, and Misery rivers in Ontonagon County from the 14th through the 23rd as part of its ongoing effort to control sea lampreys in the Great Lakes. Checking tributaries of the Great Lakes is the first step in controlling the invasive species. Crews will use electrofishing and other sampling methods to estimate lamprey populations. The survey results will help determine future control measures, including barriers, traps, and targeted lampricide treatments.
