BERGLAND - One person was killed, and two others were injured in a head-on crash in Bergland on Saturday. Members of the Ontonagon Sheriff’s Department, MSP in Wakefield and Forest Service officers responded to M-28 near Timberland Rentals. An 81-year-old man from Wakefield was driving eastbound and was turning left into a private driveway. The other car, containing a couple from Minnesota tried to avoid the crash, but was unable. the 81-year-old man was transported to Aspirus Ironwood, where he later died. The passenger of the other vehicle, a 63-year-old woman was also transported to Aspirus Ironwood, where she was then airlifted to an out of area hospital. The 61-year-old man was also injured and sought medical treatment. An investigation into the crash is underway.
