BESSEMER - The Gogebic County Commission voted last night to settle with Randy Erickson for $38,000 on his lawsuit against Deputy Scott Voit for Police Brutality in 2020 for an incident in the Gogebic County Jail. After meeting in closed session, the Commissioners voted in their public regular board meeting to settle the lawsuit. If taken to trial, it would cost the County more than that in legal fees. If Erickson took it to trial he could have been awarded an amount in the millions. Commissioner Jim Lorenson made the motion to settle for $38,000 and, it was seconded by Commissioner Dan Wood. The entire Commission then voted 7-0 to settle the lawsuit for $38,000. Erickson will receive his settlement amount in the not distant future.
