ASHLAND - The city of Ashland is moving forward with its plan to build a new splash pad at Central Railyard Park. The Ashland City Council voted unanimously to build the park after the Rotary changed the location from Bayview Park to the city’s request. If the park had been built at Bayview Park, water costs would have been significant. The splash pad at the new location will be fed from a well, rather than city water. Having the pad at Central Railyard Park also aligns better with future plans for the city. So far, the Ashland Rotary has collected the $300,000 needed to cover the splash pad and the well, so the cost to the city will be marginal. The splash pad will honor the late owners of Ashland’s music store, the Vivians and their commitment to kids. The Vivians left a generous donation with the request that it be spent on a project to benefit the community. Groundbreaking will be sometime this year, with the first step being installation of the well, followed by site prep.
