BESSEMER - Tracie Wittla of Bessemer has been appointed by Circuit Judge Michael Pope as Gogebic County Prosecuting Attorney following the retirement of Nicholas Jacobs. Wittla’s appointment takes effect today and will continue through the next general election in November 2028. Wittla has served as Chief Assistant Prosecutor for Gogebic County since February 1999.  Wittla will now begin the task of finding an assistant prosecutor for her office.  Jacobs served two stints as Prosecuting Attorney, first taking office in 1982 as the youngest prosecutor in the State of Michigan. His retirement went effective yesterday.
