ASHLAND - A home in Ashland was saved from fire on Wednesday thanks to the quick thinking of a road crew member working nearby. The unidentified man called in the fire in the 600 block of MacArthur and then grabbed a hose to battle the blaze until firefighters arrived. There was no one home when the fire started and is thought to have begun due to a reaction of fertilizer and potting soil in a garden bed by the house. Flames spread up the siding of the house and into the attic and living room of the house. Fortunately, the house is still livable and there were no injuries to anyone. The road crew worker remains unidentified.
