GOGEBIC COUNTY - The Ironwood Township Fire Department and fire crews throughout the Gogebic Range were busy yesterday responding to three brush fires, all back-to-back to back. The Ironwood Township fire department was kept busy over the weekend, responding to three brush fires, one right after the other. The department thanks Bessemer Township Fire Dept.., Wakefield Fire Dept., Ottawa National Forest Fire Crew, IPSD, MSP, Kimball Fire Dept., Gogebic County Victims Services, and all the numerous other departments that were willing and waiting to respond. The Fire Chief is asking everyone to exercise extreme caution. Fire danger is high across the western portions of Upper Michigan and is expected to continue to be so into the beginning of the week. No outdoor burning of debris is allowed for the foreseeable future. The extreme fire conditions are expected to continue today for the Western UP. Red Flag Warning is in effect for all of Northern Wisconsin and the Western Half of the U.P. Today Strong southerly winds with gusts of 20 to 30 mph along with minimum relative humidity values as in the teens will lead to critical fire weather conditions. No outdoor burning of debris is allowed for the near future.
