UPPER MICHIGAN - The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is holding public, in-person meetings in Ontonagon and Marquette counties to regulate change proposals for the state’s fisheries. Proposals for Lake Gogebic’s Walleye regulation changes will be discussed at a meeting scheduled for Tuesday, the 8th from 4 to 6 pm CDT at the Gogebic-Ontonagon School District Building. The existing standard for Walleye on the largest inland lake in the U.P. is a 15-inch minimum size with a catch limit of five fish. The change would add a protected slot limit, meaning anglers could possess up to five walleye total, measuring between 15 inches and 18 inches and 23 inches or greater; however, anglers could possess only one walleye 23 inches or greater. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is committed to providing Michigan residents with the opportunity to share input and ideas on policy decisions, programs and other aspects of natural resource management.
