IRON COUNTY- The Iron County Outdoor Recreation Enthusiasts or ICORE group is struggling to develop the Hurley-Montreal segment of the non-motorized Iron Belle Trail.

The city of Hurley must raise $175,000 by November 15 to purchase the former Sioux Line Railroad Grade from Canadian National Railway. The project is complicated by the uncertain ownership of the western Montreal section by CNR and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation's failure to release the grade despite Hurley's purchase right. A state grant is unlikely, as CN lacks mineral rights. ICORE, however, has assured the Hurley City Council at its most recent meeting that funds, including a grant from Enbridge would be secured.
