LANSING - Two bills that would ban mandatory overtime for nurses in Michigan, just passed in the Michigan Senate.  Senator Ed McBroom in leading the effort he sees as a protective measure for the nursing industry. Ensuring nurses are not being forced to work an unsafe number of hours.  The Michigan Nurses Association and political leaders advocated for the bills in Lansing Wednesday.  The Michigan Chamber of Commerce and others oppose the bill saying staffing decisions should be handled collaboratively at the hospital level rather than through broad government mandates.  They warn the legislation could worsen shortages and force hospitals to reduce services or close beds.  With the bill passing the Senate, they now advance to the house.
