BESSEMER – The city of Bessemer warning homeowners that have not had their water meters changed over to the new electronic meters to call city hall to schedule the change before it’s too late. The City of Bessemer Department of Public Works crew is 2 weeks away from the start of its scheduled days to replace water meters for many city residents. There are about 80 residents in the city that are not in compliance with the new meters and letters have been mailed to those home owners. These meter changes are free of charge. If you've received a letter, please call the Bessemer City Hall to schedule the meter change. The dates of April 29-May 1; May 13-15 and May 27-29 have been set aside to change meters. If those dates conflict with homeowners, another date can be chosen, within a reasonable timeframe.  Any residence that has not scheduled a meter change, water will be shut off to those homes on June 4 and service will not be restored until the meter has been changed and a $30 off/on fee will also be charged to the homeowner.
