GOGEBIC COUNTY - The Gogebic-Iron Area Narcotics Team took four people into custody on charges relating to the transport and distribution of methamphetamine and heroin following a multi-month investigation. According to a Gogebic Iron Area Narcotics Team press release yesterday 22-year-old Megan Benton and 55-year-old Cynthia Sullivan, both of Ironwood, along with known and unknown co-conspirators, were bringing large amounts of meth and heroin to Gogebic County and Iron County in Wisconsin to distribute from southern Wisconsin in rental cars. The release says GIANT investigators observed a suspicious vehicle in Gogebic County on the afternoon of March 8. A search of the vehicle and an Ironwood residence yielded more than one pound of meth and more than five ounces of heroin, black tar heroin and fentanyl packaged for distribution, as well as packaging materials, items used for distributing controlled substances and money. The release says Benton and Sullivan, along with 40-year-old Edmund Hampton, and 44-year-old Tyrrail Hall, both of Racine County, Wis., were placed under arrest and have been arraigned in the 98th District Court at the Gogebic County Courthouse in Bessemer. All 4 face charges of Possession with Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine Conspiracy to Deliver Methamphetamine Possession with Intent to Deliver Heroin. Sullivan faces the additional charges of maintaining a drug house. Benton is facing additional Maintaining a drug house charges along with Evidence Tampering and Resisting or Obstructing charges. GIANT says additional arrests are expected.
