VILAS COUNTY - The DNR has given out over $1,000,000 in Aquatic Invasive Species grants to organizations and departments in Oneida and Vilas County. The Vilas Land and Water Conservation Department received three grants and plans to use them to tackle a number of problems affecting lakes.  One grant is for lake monitoring and protection network for $18,000; Another is a surface water education grant for $4,000. These funds will be used to purchase ice packs and towels that boaters can use to clean their gear.  The last grant is a supplemental prevention grant for $10,000. This helps make a boat decontamination station at several lakes in Vilas County using a hot water pressure washer. This is in part with the Clean Boats Clean Water program that will hopefully stop the spread of invasive species.
