LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan Supreme Court Chief Justice Elizabeth Clement says she will step down from the court by April 30. Wednesday's announcement of the upcoming resignation opens the door for Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to make an appointment that would leave Democratic-backed justices holding a 6-1 court majority. Clement did not give a reason for her decision.
