IRON COUNTY – The Mercer town board deciding to delay a decision on a wake boat ban on the Turtle Flambeau Flowage saying they will collaborate with other townships in Iron County first.  Wake boating is an activity growing in popularity throughout Wisconsin, which uses engines with special tanks to create large waves for surfing.  The Wisconsin DNR has chosen not to get involved for the most part and has called upon towns and townships to make their own decisions regarding the matter. The wake the boats make can cause erosion to shoreline and lake bottoms on smaller and more fragile lakes.  The Mercer town board decided at a meeting last week to postpone their official decision, pending working with other townships, such as Sherman, to ensure townships are working towards the same goal. The next meeting is scheduled for March 12.
