IRONWOOD - The Gogebic County Board of Commissioners taking on three local hot button issues at their meeting tomorrow night.  First the board will vote on a resolution of support for the Copperwood Mine Project by the Highland Copper Company in Wakefield Township.  In response of the proposed resolution the group Friends of the Porkies issued what they are calling a "Gogebic County Action Alert" encouraging their followers to email board members to encourage them to vote no, claiming in their post that "The Copperwood resolution is not on the agenda for the meeting but will be added at the last minute in an anti-democratic tactic to stifle public participation" and is encouraging their followers to attend the meeting.  The second hot button issue to be discussed is regarding the senior meals program in Gogebic County.  The Board Chair recently sent a letter to Community Action asking them to explain why seniors in Watersmeet and Marensico in central and Eastern Gogebic County have been told they had to go some 20 to 30 miles to Bessemer to take advantage of the senior meals program.  Community Action in Gogebic County receives $150 million dollars via a millage approved by voters back in August.  The third hot topic issue to be discussed tomorrow night is the ongoing renovations of the Gogebic County Fair Grounds in Ironwood.  Concerns have been raised that repairs to buildings at the fairgrounds may not be finished before the 2025 Gogebic County fair this summer.  The board is also going to discuss possibly renting out the multi-purpose building to the public to generate additional income to be used to support the fair.  The Gogebic County Board of Commissions will be meeting Wednesday Night at 5:00 at the Gogebic County Court House in Bessemer.
